USAT-MA Board of Directors Meeting
Jan. 26, 2007

Preamble:

USATMA has been recognized as one of the most vibrant, active and organized Regional Federations in the USAT Family
of 10 regional federations.  Now we must continue to build upon these successes.

There is no "I" in the word Team!! WE must all work together to continue to grow

This agenda, I think, should encompass as much as we can as this is the ONLY face-to-face of the year. I would ask All Regional Committee heads to submit a brief report for distribution to all OR the chairs may attend to give there report.
But, we will need a copy to review first prior to the meeting.

Please, it is imperative that all attending the meeting be here to discuss and provide for a great start to 2007.
Without your input and attendance we lose valuable time. Again, there is only ONE face-to-face meeting.
would like to see at least eight Conference Calls this year. Perhaps we can set that up at this meeting.  I will suggest Wednesday nights at 7-8 pm ET and they will last only one hour.

I will continue to provide this BOD with all monthly information from USAT I receive as current Regional President.

 Friday, Jan 26  2007.

USAT-MA Board of Directors Meeting
November 16, 2006, 8 p.m.          Phone Conference Call

Rob Vigorito, President - Bob Wendling, Vice President - Melissa Merson, Secretary - Nic Jafirieh
Judy Carbary – Duathlon Rep. - Andrew Southerling - Alan Morrison - Vinnie Mounseau
New board members for 2007:  Greg Hawkins (North Carolina)

8:00 pm

I.     Welcome & roll call. Vigorito congratulated Melissa Merson for being elected to the national board to
represent the Mid-Atlantic region.

Vigorito announced election results from regional board elections conducted over the summer.

Bill Hauser 370 votes
Nic with 270 votes
Melissa Merson 421 votes for the region
Alan Morrison 325
Andrew Southerling
Wendling with 278
Rob Vigorito 570

Melanie Fink was reappointed to represent New Jersey

Greg Hawkins was appointed to replace Bill Scott from North Carolina

All appointees are one-year terms.

The region is allowed to have as many as 12 members on the board.
Mark Schneider was appointed to serve in Melissa Merson’s slot as she cannot serve because she won
election to the national board.

Laurie Mahler of Richmond Multisports was appointed at-large for one year.

Steve Brown of Pennsylvania (who owns Transition Times) also was appointed to an at-large seat for one year.

Todd Wiley, the Mid-Atlantic’s new Regional Athlete Development Coordinator also was on the call.

The Mid-Atlantic region of USAT region had the most candidates seeking office and the most votes cast.

Vigo thanked everyone on the current board for their help, support, and hard work.

II.     Financial Report – The third quarter check just arrived. The region can get from USAT up to $2.50 per member for accomplishing all tasks required. We have about 9,000 members, the second largest in the country. We received a check for $7,000 bringing our checking total to $31,700. We also years ago funded a CD that is worth $14,410 for a total of $46,100. We as a region do spend the most money of any region because we have the most programs that channel funds back to the members. We spent about $22,000 last year. We will get a fourth quarter check at the end of January or beginning of February that probably will be less than $4,000 so we will start next year with about $50,000.

Nic J. asked whether someone on the national level will look at our running balance and view it as a liability.
Vigorito said this happened at the Congress last year where there was a discussion of regions “squirreling”
money away. The regions that got called on the carpet were those that weren’t spending any money but
were sitting on big pots of it.

II.   Wendling discussed Lin-Mark relationship regarding website management and rankings. Discussion
ensued on the new USAT ranking system which gives each athlete a numerical value but doesn’t
actually list all athletes by age group or region. Wendling said he and the committee will continue
to review the ongoing developments and apprise the board of any necessary action.

III. Wendling discussed the regional championship programs and the USAT national office attempt to
organize a Grand Prix series across the country that pre-empted the regional championship programs.
USAT basically stole our concepts for the series, including the separate tri and du series and even the
name Grand Prix, which had long been used by our region. Wendling asked for volunteers for the regional championship committees. Nic J. volunteered for the committee. Andrew and Laurie also volunteered.

Bob expressed hope USAT will allow the regions the opportunity to hold the full array of regional
championship events. Vigo said Columbia was a Grand Prix race this year; he said they sent him
$500.00 and flags and promotional materials which, he said, in retrospect were not worthwhile.
Wendling said he supports the idea of subsidizng the club championships and the collegiate championships.
Collegiate championship should be held in September or October due to the college academic schedule.
Nic observed the same thing holds true for the club championships because if the club wins the club
champs and the nationals are a few months later, they don’t have enough time to plan their schedules.
Discussion ensued about increasing the budget for giving

IV.  Wendling welcomed Todd Wiley, our new Regional Athlete Development Coordinator.
Bob said he should be the liaison to the collegiate contacts in the Mid-Atlantic Region. He also is the link to the youth.

   V. USAT-Mid Atlantic Regional Meeting 2007 annual meeting. It will be held in Columbia again on Jan. 27th at the Columbia Sheraton hotel. Vigorito announced that George Altieri will manage the expo and there will be a 50-50 split between us and George on fees collected for the expo. Nic suggested we spend some of our funds to bring in a big-name speaker draw for the annual meeting.                                                                                                                                                         .

VI. Merson updated the regional board on actions taken by the USAT national board at their meeting last weekend.

VIII.  Next meeting:  The next conference call has been tentatively set for Wednesday, Dec. 13th at 8:00 p.m.

Respectfully submitted,
Melissa Merson, Secretary
USA Triathlon Mid-Atlantic Region
