III Treasurer’s Report –
Vigorito announced he had reviewed past 15
months financials for review at annual
meeting on Feb. 4th. As of now, we have
$34,500.00 in combined regional accounts.
Our CD total is $15,600 and our checking
account contains approximately $18,000.
Vigorito said there will be a lot of
discussion about proposed changes in how the
regions are financed at the Colorado Springs
meeting of regional presidents Jan 14-16.
The concern is that there are three regions
that are not functioning properly and how to
deal with their finances;
Vigorito said he thinks the
$2.50 per cap we get for each member is too
low and that he will be asking for more when
he represents us in Colorado Springs, CO
next weekend.
IV Committee Reports –
Web & Rankings Committee - Wendling: LinMark
wants $3000 for managing and hosting our
website and $3000 for regional rankings. If
we add our regional series rankings, they
only want an additional $250 each for adding
those rankings. USAT is taking over national
rankings and may have a regional component
to this so 2006 may be the last year that we
fund a regional rankings program. If USAT
does not, we will continue to do this
through Linn-Mark. Merson moved Morrison
seconded we extend contract for Linn Mark
for one year under the terms outlined by
Wendling.
Regional Series - Melanie
Fink, the Regional Grand Prix chari, said
she wants to add more races to the 10-race
regional series. Many people attended two
events but not many went to three or more.
She plans to contact the race directors soon
to invite them to participate in the series.
Wendling said he would include announcements
about the series with the letter going out
shortly to race directors about the annual
membership meeting. By unanimous agreement
the board agreed to increase the number of
races in the series depending upon adequate
interest in participating from race
directors.
Vigorito invited discussion
about continuing the duathlon series.
Morrison and Buxton both noted there was no
downside to continuing the series. By
unanimous consent, the board agreed to
continue the duathlon series for another
year. Vigorito asked whether duathlon
national championship results should be
included in the regional rankings. Wendling
said he also needs a letter from Judy re:
qualifications, etc. for duathlon series.
V Schedule review and
discussion of annual meeting plans – See
www.usat-ma.org for latest information.
Vigorito met last
night with Sheraton Hotel personnel
regarding the annual meeting in February.
They are going to give us the entire
ballroom for the event. It holds 500 people.
Ken Glah is being contacted
as a keynote speaker. He is married to Jan
Wanklyn, also a famous triathlete, and he
holds the record for 24 consecutive Hawaii
Ironman fnishes . He owns EnviroSports
Travel company.
Margie Shapiro (Virginia) and
Chris Martin (New Jersey) of our region both
won Best of the US last year. They both won
in Philadelphia last year besting pro’s.
Steve Dublinsky of Kensington, Md. won ITU
world’s under 23 championship. Margie also
won ITU Worlds in Honolulu outright and
Chris was top five.
Morrison moved the club with
most members in attendance at the meeting be
given $500 from USATRI MA plus 5 free comps
to regional races (preferably closed-out
events like Columbia, Philadelphia Tri,
Eagleman, etc.). A minimum of 10 club
members must show up and be present when
votes are counted. Buxton seconded. VV
approved.
VI Old Business- The
board discussed ways to promote attendance
at the USAT regional club championships
which this year is in Pittsburgh. Wendling
moved, Merson seconded that the club that
wins the regional championship be awarded
$500.00 in expense reimbursement for
attending national championships and the
club that travels the farthest to get to
regionals gets $250.00 in expenses
reimbursed.
