II Review of annual
meeting and comments from club challenge
decision. Vigorito commented on the success
of the annual meeting and expo. Eveyrone
concurred. Discussion on club challenge was
deferred until after other business was
resolved.
III College scholarship
program – board discussed desirability for
such a program along the lines of the club
championship program. Wendling moved, Merson
seconded the region establish a $1,250.00
program to award outstanding collegiate
athletes at the annual USAT-MA regional
collegiate championship; money would be
awarded for first place male and first place
female on an official collegiate team from
an accredited school within the Mid-Atlantic
region and a $250. scholarship to be awarded
randomly amongst those completing the event;
awardees must be annual USAT members (not
one-day members). Wendling will circulate
proposed rules for the program. Voice Vote
approved.
IV Vigorito reported that we
recently received a check from USAT of
$3,570 for the fourth quarter 2005 rebate.
V. Vigorito asked the board
to approve the regional triathlon and
duathlon series as outlined in previous
documents circulated to the board members. .
Wendling so moved, multiple seconds. VV
approved.
VI. The board discussed the
club challenge that took place at the annual
meeting. The challenge was implemented by
the board to encourage club members to
attend the meeting. The board discussed the
voting system used, which involved
distributing colored wristbands to each club
member when they signed in at registration
and indicated a club affiliation. We also
discussed the appropriate response to those
who were unhappy with the program. The board
had received an unsigned email from the
Executive Committee of the Mid-Maryland
Triathlon Club indicating their displeasure
with the outcome of the vote, which they
lost by a narrow margin. It was noted that
the club’s president did not raise any
objections during the event or shortly
thereafter. Vigorito reported that he has
discussed the subject with the club
president and considered the matter closed.
Merson noted she had attempted to contact
the club president to offer to speak to the
club about the club challenge and to hear
their concerns. The board agreed to make a
greater effort next year to communicate the
method of counting club members, should the
board again decide to have a club challenge.
Clubs who made an effort to bring members
out to attend the meetings generally were
commended for their efforts.
VIII Next meeting: The
next conference call will be held on a yet
to be determined date in April.

Melissa Merson
